On the weekends, they lay out a massive Bloody Mary Bar with more hot sauces to choose from than you can name. Other items include bacon vodka (does that sound sick, or what?) or jalapeño tequila. The Gothic building is gorgeous, dating back to 1837. A collection of bottles going back decades hangs from the ceiling. Really fun place.

Favorites: Salmon burger and Seared Cod. Fans of New England clam chowder won’t be disappointed.

Small pizza eatery with daily pie specials. It looks pretty bare and spartan when you come in here, almost like the dining hall on a college campus. There’s a nice horseshoe-shaped counter where you can sit. (That’s where I sit, naturally, so I can ask the staff questions when they’re not busy.) Open kitchen so you can watch them making the beautifully pungent pies. I always get 2 starter plates while I wait for the pizza: the Cantabrian anchovies and the chorizo. Nice wine list.
